May I take my coat and bag in the reading room?

Please don't take your coats and bags into the reading room. There are lockers for your luggage in the cloakroom. You can borrow a key at the issue desk. Please return the key on the same day, otherwise you will have to pay a fine (from 7,50 €).

Where can I find out what books or periodicals the library has?

You'll find all the books and periodicals the library has in our electronic catalogue OPAC. The PCs for OPAC are located in the reading room (right of the entrance). OPAC can also be accessed from home via the Internet. OPAC also has an English user interface.

    What's in OPAC?

OPAC contains records of all the books in the library system (including the main library, all the departmental and branch libraries and the stock of the University of Applied Sciences at Ingolstadt). You won't find any individual journal articles in OPAC, but you can search for periodical titles. Please use the bibliographical databases to search for articles.

What can I use the OPAC for?

    • You can search for particular books and journals
    • You can search by subject
Please note: the subject headings are in German
    • You can check your account
    • You can renew and reserve books
    • You can check the status of your interlibrary loans

Please note: you should login to use all services.

How do I borrow a book?

Look in OPAC for the book you need and note the complete shelf mark. The sign on the lift in the reading room will help you to find the book. The first number of the shelf mark also tells you how long you can borrow it:

    • 43: location mark for legal studies
      Overnight loan (4.00 pm - 10.00 am)
Weekend loan (Fr 12.00 - Mo 10.00 am)
    • 44: location mark for business studies
      Overnight loan (4.00 pm - 10.00 am)
Weekend loan (Fr 12.00 - Mo 10.00 am)
Please note: Periodicals and all the books with a red line over the shelf mark cannot be borrowed.
    • 45: location mark for stacks collection
Loan for 4 weeks - extension possible (two times 4 weeks)
    • 47: location mark for coursebook collection
Loan for 4 weeks - extension only for students: 4 weeks
    • 49: location mark for the European Documentation Centre
      Use in the reading room.

Take the books from the shelves, use them in the reading room, make a photocopy or bring them to the issue desk for borrowing (you have to produce your user card for this).

How many books can I borrow?

You can borrow up to 100 books:

    • 10 volumes with location mark 43 or 44
    • 10 coursebooks
    • Unlimited stacks books and interlibrary loan

I'm looking for a book, which is out on loan - can I make a reservation?

You can reserve course books via OPAC (Button "Get Document" > Local holdings - select). The staff reserve books of the reference collection for you. Please tell us the shelf mark of the book you need.

Can I make photocopies in the library?

There are two photocopiers in the periodical reading room (upstairs via the spiral staircase). Both are for use with copy cards (there is a vending machine for copy cards in the basement outside of the library, you need 5 € in coins). One of the copiers also takes coins.

Can I order books from the main library at Eichstätt or other libraries anywhere?

Books which are not in the stock of our branch library or another library at Ingolstadt, can be ordered by national or international interlibrary loan.
You can order books (at present free for national interlibrary loan) and photocopies of articles (charge: up to 20 pages = 1.50 €, 20 - 40 pages = 4 €) via OPAC. Click on the button "Extend search (interlibrary loan)". So you change to the Bavarian Union Catalogue. Click on "Get Document" and then on the button "Order interlibrary loan". Then you can choose between "Bestellung abschicken" (you will get the book) or "Kopienbestellung" (you can order a copy of an article from this book). If you would like to order an article of a journal, you have to search for the journal title.

Can I get information about the delivery date?

Tell us your e-mail-address, and you will be given notice, when a book or article is delivered or cannot be delivered.

What happens if I return a book late?

Sorry, but you'll get a fine: The first fine costs are 7.50 €. And of course, further reminders will follow, if you don't return the book. As a consequence of the reminder, you may not borrow any other book, before you have returned the overdue books and have paid the fine.
Please note: You have to show us a confirmation of payment. This is the only way to unlock your account quickly.
