The Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU) welcomes all refugees and asylum seekers in the region of Eichstätt and Ingolstadt. We offer a range of opportunities and services in preparation for those who would like to study at the KU.



German language course for refugees

Students of the KU and other volunteers offer German language courses for refugees staying in communities in the Eichstätt region. The courses are supported by the 'tun.starthilfe' intiative. The materials used in these courses have been specifically developed for this purpose.

Intensive German language course:

Preparation course to study at the KU
To study in Germany it is necessary to speak and understand German sufficiently. The Intensive German Language Course, which prepares students for the DSH language exam, is an eight-month course available to international students admitted to the KU. Admission reqirements:

  • Applicants must meet formal requirements for university study.
  • Admission to a university degree program at the KU
  • The minimum level of German required at the beginning of the course in October is Level A1 (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Late admittance to the course is permissible only with prior permission from the course coordinator and only if the participant has a higher level of German than A1.

Guest program

Participation in selected lectures and courses

Refugees can participate in selected lectures for various degree programs that do not have admission restrictions. This offer is free of charge. Admission reqirements:

  • Applicants must meet formal requirements for university study (university entrance diploma)
  • Good basic knowledge of German and English
  • Registration as guest student

Summer school

Once a year a summer school program is offered in Eichstätt, which refugees are welcome to enroll in. The program includes language courses, a program for children, art projects, sports and excursions.


Refugees and asylum seekers who want to partcipate in selected lectures should contact the Student Advisory Service for Refugees beforehand. After an individual consultation session we will offer you lectures and courses based upon your interests and prior knowledge.
