The university locations Eichstätt and Ingolstadt

The baroque, bishopric university town of Eichstätt is a popular vacation area in the Nature Park Altmühl. But not only tourists are fascinated by the almost unchanged baroque town, the magnificient churches and cloisters, the uncountable sights and museums. Moreover, Eichstätt has developed into a centre of modern, oftentimes prize-winning architecture over the past decades. Eichstätt surprises with its southern European flair, many leisure-time possibilities, different cultural events and festivities.

Ingolstadt is an old Bavarian city with a well preserved and affectionately rehabilitated historical centre and a rich history. Having been documented in the year 806 for the first time, Ingolstadt today impresses with its old streets lined by gable-fronts and its grand houses. The heart of the town with its clear, almost geometrical order is a work of the 13th century. The Danubian city once was Bavarian duke residence, seat of the first Bavarian state university for 328 years, Bavarian state fortress, garrison and military city. From all directions, visitors are confronted with the past. Amidst narrow, medieval alleys towers the "Hohe Schule" (High School), where not only renowned professors like Celtis, Aventin, Peter and Philipp Apian or Christoph Scheiner did work: Mary Shelley's Dr. Frankenstein, too, is said to have given life to his creature here.

The Glacis, a military property left, today surrounds the city as a green lung, making Ingolstadt one of the greenest cities in Bavaria. Not only friends of nature, but also friends of culture find interesting offers. The "Museum für Konkrete Kunst" (Musem for Concrete Art), for instance, contains the most complete collection worldwide of this style, which, with its link to graphics and design, fits into the modern image of the city and furthers it. The military tradition is continued by the Bavarian Army Museum, which is accomodated in the "Neues Schloss" (New Castle). Another highlight of the local museum landscape is the "Deutsches Medizinhistorisches Museum" (German Museum of Medicine History) in the "Alte Anatomie" (Old Anatomy).
