    "Language qualification and integration coaching"

    This offer deals with the topic of language qualification and integration coaching in the context of flight and migration and is aimed at interested students who would like to support migrants and refugees during their new orientation phase in Germany. The aim is to prepare graduates for non-school professional fields the area of language and integration work with refugees.

    Scope and content

    The offer is worth 30 ECTS credits (approx. 900 hours of work) and is divided into several components. In addition to language teaching aspects, the offer also focuses on basics in psychology, social pedagogy, law and interreligious studies, which approach the entire field of working with migrants and refugees from a theoretical perspective for knowledge acquisition, in discussion and reflection as well as through practical experiences.

    Participants acquire skills enabling them to support youth and adult migrants in their integration into the apprenticeship and labor market. Successful participants are able to apply different testing procedures for determining skills, objectives and profiles in order to support migrants during their new orientation phase. They have developed an educational awareness for the special psychological starting situations of refugees and have gained knowledge on fundamental intercultural skills. Furthermore, the coaching provides them with basic specialist knowledge on language teaching of second and foreign languages so that they are enabled to teach youths and adults in their target language German.

    Migration and integration coaches support people from migrant backgrounds during their integration phase in all areas of society. They help building bridges between home and the foreign in the life of migrants.

    Concept

    In a theoretical part, courses introduce participants to the topic. In a second step, the conveyed content will be expanded on in seminars with a practical workshop character. All theoretical knowledge gained can be applied and reflected on during the ensuing internship phase.

    The supplementary and modular studies comprise 30 ECTS credits and are taken up in the winter semester. The standard length of the program is two semesters, whereby the period of time for the mentioned internship can be determined flexibly. Participants also have the possibility of having their practical experience accredited (in part or in full) if such experience was gathered in a professional or voluntary work context. In general, all courses of this offer place great importance on maintaining a good balance of studies and work (many block events) and practical relevance of the content.  

     

     

    Modules

    1. Basic module I: Language Teaching – Basics of German Didactics and German as a Second Language, 5 ECTS credits, examination type: presentation (30 minutes), portfolio, or written examination (pass/fail).
    2. Basic module II: Professional Approaches in the Context of Flight and Migration; 5 ECTS credits, examination type: presentation (30 minutes), portfolio, or written examination (pass/fail).
    3. Specialization Language Teaching – Language and Language Use, 5 ECTS credits, examination type: presentation (30 minutes), portfolio, or written examination (pass/fail).
    4. Specialization: Professional Approaches in the Context of Flight and Migration: 5 ECTS credits, examination type: presentation (30 minutes), portfolio, or written examination (pass/fail).
    5. Internship: 10 ECTS credits, examination type: internship report (15 pages DIN A4) (pass/fail). This module can be taken either in the first or second semester.
