Prof. Dr. Daniel Mark Eberhard - Artistic profile, awards and other references

Artistic Career 

  • Instruments: Piano, keyboards, Hammond organ, accordion, (saxophone, guitar)
  • 1995 admission to the state youth jazz orchestra Bavaria, since 1997 intensive activity as musician in the areas of jazz, pop, big band, fusion/crossover, world music
  • Activity as arranger: amongst others adaptations to the opera “The Marksman” by Carl Maria Weber for a jazz trio, to the opera “Carmen” for big band; arrangements of folk songs, medieval and Jewish music as well as works by J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart and R. Wagner for diverse instrumentations; school musical and choir arrangements
  • 2000 Master class with Jacques Loussier (having successfully followed a selection procedure)
  • 2002 founding and leading the Augsburg University Big Band until 2015; international concert activity and numerous large artistic projects
  • 2008 founding the pop orchestra of Augsburg University; concert tour with a total of 14 concerts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. For details please refer to: ANAJO und das Poporchester der Universität 2008/2009
  • artistic involvement in studio, radio and TV productions, amongst others arranger and musical director of the ZDF TV production “Verlorene Maßstäbe” on the occasion of the central opening ceremony of the 2010 Woche der Brüderlichkeit
  • artistic involvement in musical, theater and show productions
  • artistic collaboration, amongst others with Jacques Loussier and André Arpino (France), Darioush Shirvani (Iran), Seref Dalyanoglu (Turkey), Layth Abdul Ameer (Iraq), Njamy Sitson (Cameroon), Bobby Shew, Chico Freeman, Gil Kaupp (USA), Steve Fishwick (GB), Joo Kraus, Andy Haderer, Rüdiger Baldauf ("Heavytones” band), Claus Reichstaller, Sebastian Studnitzky, Harald Rüschenbaum, Stephan Holstein, Michael Lutzeier, Jörg Widmoser, ANAJO, Thomas Brussig (all Germany) and Christiane Hörbiger (Austria).
  • Ensemble director and sideman in numerous CD and DVD productions (please see Publications)
  • Performing on international jazz and classical music festivals, e.g. Bansko Jazz Festival / Bulgaria 1998 and 2012; Varna Jazz Summer / Bulgaria 2012; Braunschweig Classix 2000, 2001, 2007, 2008; Val di Fiemme Ski Jazz Festival / Italy 2005; Jazz Festival Prague 2007 (Reduta Jazz Club Prague); Jazzfest München 2009; regular engagements at the Jazzweekend Regensburg, Jazzfrühling Kempten, international Augsburger Jazzsommer and others

Awards, nominations and grants

  • Several awards for “Jugend jazzt” as ensemble director and soloist, amongst others first place “with outstanding success” 1998
  • Awards won in the “Jugend jazzt” competition 2005 and the orchestra competition in Bavaria 2007 with Augsburg University Big Band
  • Award for “outstanding achievements” in the Victor Kemperer competition 2004
  • Second place in Bavarian crossmedia competition for video clip production “Hey Mann!” 2004
  • Art promotion award from the city of Augsburg for jazz & composition 2005
  • Augsburg theater prize for “Swing alive” as “best production” of the year 2007
  • Art prize of the city of Gersthofen 2011
  • Award of the Johann Jakob Lotter-Preis of the Leopold-Mozart-Zentrum at Augsburg University for a supervised examination work.
  • Nomination of the CD “imago – a modern suite” for the quarterly prize awarded by the German Record Critics 2011 in the field of modern jazz
  • Nomination for the Bavarian Music Prize 2013 in the fields “professional music making” and “amateur music making” (project: “Big Breaks!”) awarded by the Bavarian Arbeitskreis der Musikdidaktiker
  • Nomination of the “Big Breaks!” project for the special prize of the children’s jury on the occasion of the “Junge Ohren Preis 2013”
  • "Bayerischer Pädagogikpreis 2014": Award for “outstanding and innovative achievements in teacher training in Bavaria”
  • Grants, amongst others, received from the Bayerischer Musikfonds (2000), the Landes-Jugendjazzorchester Bayern and the youth jazz orchestra of the Federal Republic of Germany
  • German Pop Prize 2014 for the CD production “RED” by Sarah Straub
