  • Born in 1954 in Havixbeck near Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia
  • 1980 to 1986: Research associate at the Chair of Dogmatics at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (under Prof. Dr. Ludwig Hödl)
  • 1985: Awarded a doctoral degree (Dr. phil.) for an interdisciplinary thesis on spirituality in the Late Middle Ages (supervisors: Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Seibt and Prof. Dr. Ludwig Hödl)
  • 1988: Awarded the Fritz Theodor Epstein Prize for outstanding doctoral theses in Frankfurt am Main
  • 1985 to 1986: Trainee teacher in Essen, then teacher at a Gymnasium
  • 1988 to 1990: Second period as a research associate at the Chair of Dogmatics at the Faculty of Catholic Theology, Ruhr-Universität Bochum
  • Appointed Professor of the History of the Theology of Marriage and Family at the International Academic Institute for Marriage and Family, Kerkrade (Netherlands), at the age of 36
  • 1995: Awarded a habilitation in dogmatics and the history of dogmatics from the Faculty of Catholic Theology at Ruhr-Universität Bochum for a thesis on the end times (eschatology)
  • Since 1996: Lecturer in systematic theology and religious education at the Institute for Advanced Teacher Training (IfL) in Mülheim; appointed academic director of the institute in 2003
  • 2003: Appointed Chair of Dogmatics at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt
  • Since 2003: Chairman of the ecumenical commission of the diocese of Eichstätt
