Political Institutions, the Economy, and Financial Markets (ehemals Political Economy)

In this course, we study how self-interested politicians form the economy. First, we will consider how the voting process, lobbying or bureaucratic interests shape politics and economic policy. In examples, we will then see how political events and political risks influence financial markets and corporate governance.

In this course, you will learn to apply economic reasoning to different (also non-economic) aspects of the world, but we will also see how economic decisions and voting are sometimes driven by non-rational aspects. You will understand the background of political decisions, and learn how to anticipate the impact of government policies on business operations
