Mission and Purpose of the Foundation

The Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt Foundation is the legal entity of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU). It is an ecclesiastical foundation under public law. The Foundation was established in 1968 by the Bavarian dioceses as the "Stiftung Pädagogische Hochschule Eichstätt" (Foundation Pedagogical University Eichstätt) and renamed "Kirchliche Gesamthochschule Eichstätt, Kirchliche Stiftung des öffentlichen Rechts" (Comprehensive Church University, Ecclesiastical Foundation under Public Law) in 1972.After the University was elevated to the status of "Catholic University" on April 1, 1980, and its later expansion to include the Ingolstadt campus, the name of the Foundation was adapted; however, its purpose, as described in more detail in Article 2 of its Constitution, always remained unchanged, namely the promotion of the University that it funds.
