The Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt Foundation is the legal body supporting the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU). It is an ecclesiastical foundation under public law. The Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt Foundation was established by the Bavarian dioceses in 1968 as the “Stiftung Pädagogische Hochschule Eichstätt” (College of Education Eichstätt Foundation) and renamed to “Kirchliche Gesamthochschule Eichstätt, Kirchliche Stiftung des öffentlichen Rechts” in 1972.
Even after the University became a "Catholic University" on April 1, 1980, and was later expanded to include the Ingolstadt campus, the name of the foundation was changed; however, its purpose, as described in Article 2 of its Constitution, remained unchanged, namely the promotion of the University it supports.
