Requirements for letters of recommendation

We receive a lot of requests for a letter of recommendation. Our department has transparent criteria for when we write such a letter. Four performance criteria must first be met:

  1. Depending on the reason for the letter of recommendation, the student must be among the best in his/her cohort (for letters of recommendation for scholarships, these are often the 5 or 10 percent best of a cohort).
  2. The student must have performed very well in the professorship's courses and/or be known as a high performer due to the supervision of the final thesis/due to a student assistant job.
  3. The student must have completed an undergraduate psychology degree (e.g. bachelor's degree in psychology before the BaP master's degree).
  4. The student should demonstrate involvement outside of the university.

If these criteria are met, we ask that you submit the following documents digitally to Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Kals (elisabeth.kals(at)ku.de), Dr. Svenja Schütt (svenja.schuett(at)ku.de) or Dr. Patricia Zieris (patricia.zieris(at)ku.de):

  1. Current and official Transcript of Records
  2. Full CV
  3. Short, maximum one-page letter of motivation (letter of recommendation for a scholarship: motivation for taking up the respective course of study, identification with the foundation; letter of recommendation for a semester abroad: motivation for the stay abroad, reasons for choosing the respective university)
