Guest lecture by dr. Jasper Heslinga on „Tomorrow’s tourism: Understanding, rethinking, and shaping destinations of the future“

On June 8, 2026, the Chair of Tourism will welcome dr. Jasper Heslinga from the NHL Stenden University for a guest lecture in the course “Theory and Strategy in Destination Management and Marketing.” At NHL Stenden University, he engages in research and teaching at the Academy for Leisure, Tourism & Hospitality and at the European Tourism Futures Institute (ETFI).

Tourism is increasingly shaped by rapid change, uncertainty and global transformation. In this guest lecture, Dr Jasper Hesling introduces key approaches to future thinking and their relevance to tourism development and strategy. This session explores trend analysis and horizon scanning to identify emerging signals and disruptions, and examines how technology, climate change, mobility, demographic shifts, and consumer behaviour shape the future of tourism. Using practical examples, the lecture demonstrates how destinations and tourism organisations apply scenario planning and future thinking to support strategic decision-making in complex environments.

The event is open for anyone from KU who is interested. Registration is not required. The lecture will be held in English.
