On 13 December 2002, Johannes Zapp successfully defended his dissertation on "Bilingual Modules in Catholic Religious Education. A study on the effects of the possibility of language choice and language change in classes 9 and 10 at the Descartes-Gymnasium in Neuburg a. d. Donau".
The disputation was attended by Prof. Dr. Heiner Böttger, Prof. Dr. Verena Schulz, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Kropač and Prof. Dr. Thomas Hoffmann.
