Important information - Zoom client update to version 5.0 must be installed before May 30, 2020

A new version of the Zoom client is now available. Version 5.0 contains improved security settings and supports AES 256-Bit-GCM encryption that provides for enhanced protection of meeting data and greater security against manipulation. How is this new encryption algorithm relevant for you and which other security functions should you take note of in this new version?

1.   AES 256-Bit-GCM encryption

Zoom 5.0 supports the current encryption and GCM encryption. All accounts in the system will be updated to GCM encryption on May 30, 2020. From May 30 onwards, only users with Zoom clients from version 5.0, including Zoom rooms, will be able to participate in Zoom meetings.

2.   New encryption symbol

A new encryption icon will be displayed in the upper left corner of your Zoom meeting screen to indicate that you are in a safe, encrypted meeting. After May 30, the icon will be green for all users, which indicates an enhanced GCM encryption. By clicking the icon, you will access the statistics page, which informs you of more details on the encryption.

3.   Improvements for ending/leaving meetings

The action for ending or leaving a Zoom meeting was improved to make it simpler and safer. A new UI update allows hosts to clearly decide whether they want to end a meeting or simply leave it.
