Lecture by Josefa Woditsch on January 8, 2025, at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt

At the invitation of the Central Institute for Latin American Studies (ZILAS), Ms. Josefa Woditsch will give a lecture on January 8, 2025, titled: Auf der Suche nach mehr Gerechtigkeit. Brasilianische Impulse für eine Theologie im Dienst der Befreiung [In Search of Greater Justice. Brazilian Impulses for a Theology in the Service of Liberation]

In the 20th century, liberation theologies developed in South America as a reaction to colonial burdens and military dictatorships. They critically reflect on societal practice in the light of the Gospel, denounce unjust power structures, and advocate for the liberation of marginalized groups. The lecture explores the relationship between theology and societal activism through the lenses of ecology, feminism, and democracy. It is based on a research project that highlights Brazilian perspectives on theology and the church.
