“Maintaining and promoting the well-being and life satisfaction of residents in fully inpatient care facilities through nature observations”. That was the overarching goal of the prevention project “All the birds are already here” of the State Association for Bird Protection in Bavaria e.V. (LBV). Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Kals, Dr. Susanne Freund, and Dr. Patricia Zieris supported the project scientifically as a team of researchers for three years. On the one hand, the general acceptance of the project in the facilities was checked, and on the other hand, its short, medium, and long-term effectiveness in relation to the cognitive resources, mobility, and well-being of residents in care facilities. In order to implement the complex research design, which includes, among other things, a control and experimental condition as well as a cross-sectional and longitudinal section, measuring instruments had to be newly developed, adapted, and validated.

The results have now been published in the Journal of Environmental Psychology. The article can be viewed at https://authors.elsevier.com/a/1hmQgzzKDIKiF.
