Prof. Dr. Ulrich Kropač and Dr. Dr. Mariusz Chrostowski gave a lecture on Friday, 20 September 2024, in the framework of the AKRK annual conference "Religious education in its areas of tension – an assessment of the current situation", which took place from 19 to 21 September 2024 in the Exerzitienhaus St. Paulus in Leitershofen. Their workshop dealt with the topic 'Religious Education in the face of growing non-denominationalism: Germany and Poland in comparison'.

Germany and Poland differ in the importance of religion and religious education for state, society and church. However, when looking at the current religious demographic developments in both countries, especially with regard to de-confessionalisation and growing irreligiousness, there are striking parallels. How should approaches to religious education (in schools) deal with these changes now and in the future? Are similar teaching-learning settings needed in neighbouring countries? Or do political, social and cultural differences require different religious didactic responses? These and similar questions were discussed with the participants during the workshop.
