In order to be able to more strongly address and analyze the current changes in politics, the economy and society caused by advancing digitization in research and teaching, it will be one of the KU's tasks in the future to deal with the opportunities and risks of digitization to a greater extent than in the past. On the one hand, it will be necessary to establish a broader ability to connect and discourse within the disciplines, and on the other hand, to align the existing teaching and study programs in such a way that they take greater account of these changing parameters. It will be the task of the KU to develop and build up its own expertise and competencies in this area, to integrate these meaningfully into the existing portfolio of subjects as interdisciplinary cross-sectional topics, and thereby to ensure the connectivity of its academic teaching and research profile to important societal and scientific leading discourses.

A university with a strong profile in the social sciences, economics and the humanities and an ethical model based on the Christian image of man has a particular responsibility to relate technical progress to social change, to identify possible areas of tension, to identify potential risks and challenges, and to make a contribution from a scientific perspective to a digital society that is oriented toward people.

Against this background, it is important to examine and reflect on the current and future effects of digitization processes on nature/the environment, people, the world of work, and coexistence in society, etc. While weighing up the opportunities and risks, a central task is also to develop approaches for the profitable use of digital technologies, to ensure inclusion and participation in the opportunities offered by new digital technologies, and to help shape social coexistence in a constructive, fair and socially balanced way under the conditions of digitization.
