The agreement establishes the institutional framework for intensified academic cooperation. The concrete objective of this partnership is the digital documentation of historic Franciscan churches in Egypt, promoting research on this important cultural heritage and facilitating its scholarly publication and international accessibility.

The cooperation focuses on the exchange of academic expertise, the further development of the documentation project according to international standards, and the joint organization of academic workshops and conferences. The results of the project will be made digitally accessible via the Eastern Christian Studies Online Campus.

The Cooperation Protocol is initially concluded for a period of five years and highlights the shared commitment of both institutions to contribute to a deeper understanding of the Christian traditions of the Orient and to the preservation of cultural heritage.

The protocol was signed by Fr. Milad Shehata OFM, Director of the Franciscan Cultural Center in Cairo, and Prof. Dr. Thomas Kremer, Director of the Research Center for Oriental Christianity.
