The open-access anthology “Vergessenssensible Biografieforschung. Transdisziplinäre Perspektiven und Zugänge” [Biographical Research Sensitive to Forgetting: Transdisciplinary Perspectives and Approaches], edited by André Epp and Merle Hinrichsen and published by Beltz Juventa, emerged from the scoping workshop "Forgetting as the Future of a Field of Research?!" (project number 0071639), funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. While forgetting has so far been largely neglected in biographical research and has often been regarded merely as the flip side of remembering, this volume addresses this gap. The collected transdisciplinary theoretical, methodological and empirical contributions shed light on the relevance of forgetting to biographies, examine the interactions between cultures of memory and forgetting, analyse the role of forgetting in data archives, and pay particular attention to the mediality and materiality of the biographical. In doing so, the publication provides a multi-layered insight into an emerging field of research.
