Lukas Brunner studies for a Bachelor's degree in Geography at the KU.

Lukas wants to commit himself to a sustainable future. That's why he's completing his Bachelor's degree in Geography at the KU. This degree program prepares him for the challenges of our time with its exciting mix of natural and social sciences as well as theory and practice: The University provides students with pollen measuring devices, weather stations, drones, and the geomedia lab, and also organizes exciting field trips and road trips on a regular basis.

How can sustainable food and goods be produced? What is the right way to deal with drought? How can people be motivated to act more sustainably? Lukas wants to find answers and actively contribute to shaping a sustainable and future-proof world. Lukas was already involved in the Fridays for Future movement during his school days. He took part in demonstrations and gave several speeches. This made him realize that he wanted to work in the field of environmental and sustainability research in the future in order to contribute to climate protection in his career. After graduating from high school, Lukas decided to do voluntary service in the Barcelona area with the European Solidarity Corps, an initiative of the European Union. His stay abroad showed him how a big city needs to be designed in order to improve the quality of life for the people who live there and to allow nature to return to built-up areas. His time in Barcelona inspired Lukas to study Geography at the KU.

Lukas is also involved in sustainable issues beyond his studies and is very active in various initiatives at KU: he is the chair of the AK Wetterschau (weather observation working group) and an active member of the AK Kapuzinergarten Eden (Capuchin Garden Eden working group). During his years at the KU, Lukas has the opportunity to work on a variety of topics, both scientifically and in practical applications. He is learning to tackle complex problems holistically, which helps him to commit to a sustainable future.
