Sascha's DreamFuture: Encouraging children to be their true self

Sascha wants to study elementary school teaching in order to teach children to be authentic and appreciate their uniqueness.
Sascha Grünwald studies elementary school teaching at the KU.

“Just be yourself, as long as you don't restrict anyone else.” – He wants to pass this message on to children later on, to teach them that they don't have to conform to any preconceived ideas. Sascha wants to be a confidant and point of contact for his future pupils, especially in the area of LGBTQIA+. Sascha has wanted to be a teacher since childhood, and his federal volunteer service at an elementary school later reinforced his decision.

Sascha never quite fit the stereotype of a boy. As a friend once said to him, “Your closet was made of glass.” He first came out at around 18, initially only to his closest friends, and three years later to his parents. At the KU, Sascha has found a safe space for himself, among other things in the form of the Queer working group (AK) and the circle of friends that has partly developed from it. He can be himself and is encouraged to try new things.

Studying at the KU was the obvious choice for Sascha: he didn't want to study too far away from his hometown and therefore preferred a small, personal university in a small town over a university in a big city. At the KU, he benefits from considerably smaller classes with a maximum of 20 students, which allows him to learn more intensively.

Sascha's involvement at the KU is remarkable. As co-leader of the AK Queer, member of the student convention, deputy student women's and equal opportunities officer, and in various student councils, he is actively involved in campus life. Through his studies and his diverse involvement, he feels well prepared to make his dream future a reality: helping people find their truest self.

My dream is to encourage children to be their truest self.
