Recording credits for modules that have been chosen multiple times takes place if it is possible for this module to be completed more than once in accordance with the applicable examination regulations. This means that a module with different courses that allow students to deepen and diversify their skills can be completed up to three times and incorporated into their own degree program in accordance with the examination regulations. The second or third completion of the module takes place as a specialization module and is not recognized.
Multiple completion of a module is excluded if the examination regulations do not permit modules to be chosen multiple times. In this case, recognition is also not possible.
Even if several courses with different content are offered for a module, it can only be completed once as a required module, required elective module or elective module, unless the examination regulations explicitly state that this module can be chosen multiple times.
If a module has been taken more than once but the examination regulations do not stipulate that it can be taken multiple times, the Examinations Office often receives inquiries as to whether the examination taken incorrectly in this respect can be "credited" to another module. If a module has been completed several times although this is not allowed in accordance with the examination regulations, this fact cannot be compensated for by credit transfer or recognition.
If a module has been taken more than once without a legal basis, the last grade taken is always displayed in the overview of grades first, because the previous grade is overwritten by the new grade in the list for technical reasons. However, in the transcript of records issued at the end of the degree program, only the first examination of the module taken multiple times is evaluated and recorded for this module, regardless of the grades achieved in the individual examinations, because this would otherwise constitute an impermissible form of grade improvement.
If a module for which the examination regulations explicitly state that it can be taken more than once is completed a second or third time, the second or third completion of the module is credited to specialization modules.
However, if a module for which the examination regulations do not stipulate that it can be chosen more than once has been booked once for the respective degree program, it can – if it has been taken a second or third time – be listed as a voluntary additional achievement in an annex to the transcript of records when the certificate documents are issued.
If a module that has been taken more than once and for which your examination regulations allow that it is taken multiple times is not displayed correctly in your transcript of records, please contact the Examinations Office directly using the contact form, select your degree program and the category "Transcript of records" and provide the facts and, if possible, the module number of the module that has been taken more than once.
You can request that a module that has been taken more than once, but for which your examination regulations do not give the option of taking it more than once, is included in the annex to your transcript of records as a voluntary additional achievement with your certificate application at the end of your studies. You can request issuance of your final academic record by submitting a certificate application that is available on your degree program website. This is a case of including additional achievements.
So, recording of credits for modules chosen multiple times does not constitute recognition or credit transfer.
