Types of recognition and credit transfer

Credit transfer and recognition occur in various contexts at the KU. Terminologically and in the procedure or process to be followed in the online credit transfer portal, the KU distinguishes between the following types:

  1. Internal credit transfer: Recognition of credits earned in a degree program at the KU, usually when changing degree programs or starting a double degree program.
  2. External credit transfer:
    1. Recognition of academic achievements: Recognition of credits earned in degree programs at other universities in Germany or abroad.
    2. Recognition of credits earned with the Bavarian Virtual University (VHB): Recognition of credits earned at a virtual university.
    3. Recognition of non-university achievements: Recognition of skills acquired in a professional context in particular.
  3. Learning Agreement Early recognition of modules to be completed during a stay abroad.

Please note: There are a number of scenarios at the KU that are typically confused with transactions that do not constitute recognition/credit transfer in legal terms and also with regard to the required procedure, even though they are often referred to as "recognition or credit transfer" (especially re-bookings of credits). The correct procedure is indicated under the respective description of these typical scenarios that are often confused . If you are unsure about this, the Student Advisory Service will be happy to help.
