Identical modules are integrated into a number of degree programs at the KU (so-called “polyvalent modules”). When changing degree programs, modules used in the previous and the new degree program can be "taken along"; for legal reasons, a request for recognition is required in this case.
This has the advantage for you that you do not have to transfer individual modules to your new or additional degree program, for example because you would like to start a new attempt to complete a module within your newly selected degree program.
So the situation might only seem paradox at first glance when assuming that a request for recognition of module A of the previous degree program must be submitted for the identical module A of the new degree program. Going through the credit transfer process instead of an automatic transfer gives you the choice of deciding which modules you would like to transfer to your new degree program.
Polyvalent modules are often already on a so-called white list in the online credit transfer portal for the degree program. It contains module combinations that have already been recognized for your degree program in the past. If the board of examiners responsible for you has such module combinations on a whitelist, recognition in these cases is effected without individual approval from the board of examiners and can therefore be completed much quicker.
Please note that re-booking of credits, recording credits for an examination, booking of credits for modules chosen multiple times, including additional achievements, the assignment of modules and the recording of voluntary work do not constitute cases of internal credit transfer.
