Résumé

Karin Boczek has been a junior professor of digital journalism at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt since May 2021. Prior to this, she was a junior professor at the Journalism Department at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz from October 2019 to April 2021.

She studied journalism with a second subject in social sciences (Diplom-Journalistin) and economics (Bachelor) at TU Dortmund University and completed her doctorate in 2019 on the topic of “Diversity as a journalistic value? An analysis of the use of expert sources in reporting with text mining and classical content analysis”.

Karin Boczek completed a traineeship at the “Neue Westfälische” in Bielefeld and completed internships at “Radio Bremen” and “NDR”, among others.

From 2018 to 2021, she was one of the spokespersons for the Young Journalism Research Network.

The article “Adapting to Affordances and Audiences? A Cross-Platform, Multi-Modal Analysis of the Platformization of News on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter”, which she published together with Valerie Hase and Michael Scharkow, was awarded ‘Top Paper’ of the year 2023 in Digital Journalism, received an ‘honorable mention’ at the ICA Journalism Studies Wolfgang Donsbach Outstanding Journal Article of the Year Award in 2024 and was runner-up (together with another article) at the ‘Bob Franklin Journal Article Award’.

In 2023 and 2024, Karin Boczek was a member of the nomination committee for the Grimme Online Award.
