Deutschlandticket for students starting in the winter semester

The Deutschlandticket (regularly available for 49 euros) is valid nationwide on all public transportation in the associations and with all local transportation companies. It can be used in local transport throughout Germany, i.e. buses, streetcars, city trains, subway trains and suburban trains, as well as in regional trains and regional express trains in the 2nd class. The ticket is not valid for long-distance travel (ICE, IC, EC) or private operators (e.g. FlixTrain / FlixBus). Starting in the coming winter semester, trainees and students will be able to purchase this ticket in Bavaria at a reduced price  – it is also valid nationwide. The subscription for the ticket can be cancelled on a monthly basis.

KU students will be able to purchase the discounted Deutschlandticket from mid-September via the online shop at https://deutschlandticket.vgi.de of the Ingolstadt transport association VGI. The ticket is then displayed in the VGI app on the following day. The discount applies provided that and as long as students are enrolled. Students will be able to authenticate themselves with the KU user ID when purchasing the ticket. Thus, to prove student status, it will not be necessary to submit a written certification. According to the transportation provider IVG, payment for the discounted Deutschlandticket can be made either by credit card or SEPA credit transfer (also possible with foreign bank accounts, however provided that the buyer has a place of residence in Germany). The technical and organizational requirements for this ordering process are currently still being established. The KU will inform students with a circular e-mail as soon as the ticket can be purchased and then also explain the steps in detail.

Those who already use the regular “49 Euro Ticket” should note that it must be cancelled by the 10th of the current month so that it is not automatically renewed in the following month. Anyone wishing to use the discounted Deutschlandticket from October 1 must cancel an existing “49 Euro Ticket” by September 10 at the latest. Cancellation is effected via the provider from whom the Deutschlandticket was purchased.
