Temporary diplomats: Students attend Model United Nations

Being diplomat for a day – and discussing world politics as delegates of your country: this opportunity was given to fourteen students of the course “Communication and Diplomatic Negotiations in International Relations” who attended “The European International Model United Nations” (TEIMUN) in The Hague. “Model United Nations” are mock scenarios which simulate the work at the United Nations.

The KU is one of only a few universities that teaches theoretical and practical knowledge connected to TEIMUN in a module in preparation for the conference. The seminar, which is taught in English by Prof. Dr. Rico Behrens (Professor of Political Education) and his employee Anne Friedrich, imparts practical knowledge on international negotiations and diplomatic rhetoric. At the conference in the Netherlands, students from Eichstätt discussed with approx. 150 students from all over the world. The theme of this year’s conference was “Vision 2020: Reforming the International System for a New Century”. At the event, students could slip into the role of delegates of different UN member states.
