Uniservitate in Eichstätt: KU hosts two international symposia

Uniservitate is a global program aimed at promoting and supporting service-learning projects at Catholic universities worldwide. Students, scholars, teachers, and practitioners from all over the world are now meeting for two conferences organized by the KU. The VI Global Uniservitate Symposium will take place on November 6 and 7 in Eichstätt and online. The KU will also host the Uniservitate Student Symposium online on October 23.

Service learning combines academic education with social engagement by allowing students to apply their knowledge in practical projects. This idea was a central concern of Pope Francis, aiming to connect teaching and social engagement. The worldwide association of Catholic universities aims to disseminate service learning and embed it institutionally. This also aims to promote social projects. "In a world grappling with deep tensions and difficulties, it is urgent to continue viewing education as an act of courage and hope that builds peace, and solidarity service-learning is a pedagogy that makes that possible." This is stated in the invitation to the VI Global Symposium, which will take place in Eichstätt on November 6 and 7, 2025, under the title "Service-Learning in a Fragile World: Universities Nourishing Peace and Hope." Focusing on the three goals of the global network Uniservitate – research, networking, and institutionalization – the symposium promotes intercultural and interreligious dialogue through solidarity-based service learning. In addition to panel discussions, there will be roundtable discussions on research and practice. The Global Symposium invites students and faculty involved in service-learning projects at Catholic universities around the world, as well as interested practitioners from the social sector. Here, they will have the opportunity to learn about Uniservitate's service-learning projects.

This one-day online symposium creates a space for creativity, dialogue, and reflection. Students will participate in interactive workshops, project presentations, and discussions that highlight the transformative potential of student initiatives.
