This is also encouraging in light of the fact that the current sample refers to the graduation years 2020 and 2021, which were strongly influenced by Corona restrictions. While in the overall view of all universities surveyed, satisfaction with graduates’ studies dropped from an average of 72 percent to 67 percent compared to the time before the pandemic, satisfaction among KU graduates actually rose again from 79 to about 85 percent during the same period. The bottom line is that over 81 percent of respondents would "definitely" recommend studying at the KU. The recommendation rate is thus a good eight percentage points above the Bavarian average.

In many other areas, the KU also received better ratings from former students than the ratings that alumni gave on average for the other Bavarian universities. For example, KU graduates state that their degree programs provide a better link between theory and practice (proportion of "very good" and "good" was 55 percent at the KU versus 40 percent in a comparison of all universities). Graduates who participated in the survey particularly praised subject-specific support and advice: As much as 78 per cent said that the KU was doing a very good or good job in this respect, while the Bavarian average only amounted to 62 per cent of former students who experienced their everyday study life in this way.

As far as the organization of studies is concerned, the KU also achieves consistently better results here than other universities – such as in relation to providing international courses (62 percent at the KU compared to just under 49 percent for the overall average), the timing of courses (around 79 percent compared to 70 percent) or the compatibility with internships or side jobs.

KU alumni are also up to ten percent more satisfied than their peers at other institutions with regard to the teaching of key skills (nearly 70 percent) or expressive skills (66 percent). The lead is also very pronounced in terms of satisfaction with practicing oral presentation techniques or learning how to prepare scientific texts. In addition, more than half of the KU's respondents say they have engaged in voluntary commitment during their studies. However, there is no Bavaria-wide comparison for this, as this question was only asked to KU graduates participating in the survey.

With regard to their first professional job after graduation, KU alumni are significantly more satisfied (nearly 68 percent) than other participants in the survey (58 percent on average). The same applies to the level of tasks assigned to them at work against the background of the qualifications earned.

For the current evaluation, around 4900 former students who graduated from one of the Bavarian universities and higher education institutions between 2020 and 2021 were surveyed. The Bavarian graduate survey provides universities with valuable data for quality assurance and degree program planning. The questions are jointly determined by the Bavarian State Institute for Higher Education Research and Planning together with the universities to ensure comparability. The new study once again stresses the continuously high quality of studies and teaching at the KU, which other surveys such as the CHE University Ranking also regularly confirm.
