On October 30, 2024, Dr. Patricia Zieris was unanimously elected deputy spokesperson of the Mittelbau of the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. Dr. Peter Fischer (independent representative of the Department of Soil Geography & Soil Erosion) was elected spokesperson.
But what is the mid-level faculty anyway?
The mid-level faculty (Mittelbau) consists of all academic and artistic staff who are engaged in research and/or teaching and who do not hold a professorship or chair. Hence the name: in the middle between students and professors.
The convention (Konvent) is made up of the elected representatives of mid-level academic staff at the KU in the faculty councils, the Senate and the University Council.
The spokesperson-team (Sprecher:innenteam) represents the Konvent vis-à-vis the university management, the Bavarian Academic Staff Association (Landesverbands Wissenschaftliches Personal in Bayern) and other organizations and institutions.
On November 29, the bi-annual meeting of the Bavarian Academic Staff Association (LWB), which brings together the conventions of the Bavarian universities, took place at the Munich University of Applied Sciences. We had an intensive exchange there. We also had the opportunity to discuss with Katja Weitzel, SPD member of the Bavarian Parliament, member of the Science and Art Committee and spokesperson for science, religion and culture.
