Dr. McFarland has worked with JWL as a faculty member, course designer, and content specialist in education. His work with JWL (formerly Jesuit Commons: Higher Education at the Margins) has taken him to refugee camps in Thailand and many countries in Africa throughout the last 12 years. He has served as a Professor of Education and Special Education at universities in the United States, and is Professor Emeritus at Lewis-Clark State College of Lewiston, Idaho. Dr. McFarland received his doctorate from the University of Iowa and completed his Bachelor and Master Degrees at the University of Minnesota in Communications and Special Education. At the present time, his focus is blended and global learning with interests in positive psychology and educational technologies.  He has recently written a book about strategies for flourishing and enchantment, Reflecting on Happiness: Designing a Great Life.
