Health insurance

Prospective students must provide proof of their insurance status to the University for enrollment. Therefore, please request proof of your insurance status from a German statutory health insurance provider. You no longer need to submit a paper or PDF certificate!

The statutory health insurance provider will then transmit the proof of insurance status directly to the University via an electronic process. Private health insurance providers cannot confirm insurance status.

Please include our sender number H0000834.

The University will also confirm your enrollment electronically to the relevant health insurance provider as soon as enrollment is complete.

I am insured with a German statutory health insurance provider

Request proof of your insurance status from your health insurance provider. Your health insurance provider will then send us the data directly and exclusively electronically (M10 notification).

I am privately insured

Even if you are not covered by statutory health insurance, we require the M10 notification from a German statutory health insurance provider. Proof from private health insurance providers is insufficient.

If you have previously had statutory insurance in Germany, apply to your last statutory health insurance provider for an exemption from the health insurance obligation.

If you have never been covered by statutory health insurance in Germany, you can apply for the exemption at any German statutory health insurance provider.

I am not subject to the German health insurance obligation due to my age

Please contact a German health insurance provider anyway and have them send us proof of your insurance status.

I am an international student or insured abroad

If you have never been covered by statutory health insurance in Germany or are still insured abroad, register with any German statutory health insurance provider and ask them to submit the appropriate registration (M10) to KU.

Further information on health insurance

If changes occur during your studies (e.g., change of health insurance provider, termination of insurance coverage, late payment of health insurance premiums), notifications are automatically exchanged between health insurance providers and the university. This may also result in you not being re-registered or being de-registered if no corresponding notification from the health insurance provider is received. If you have any questions, please contact the Student Office via the contact form; please select the “Health Insurance” category.
