Angelika has a clear vision of her future—she wants to spread joy through music. “No one should be afraid of music”, she says. Angelika has been playing the flute since she was seven years old and is passionate about music. With her warmth and openness, she wants to connect with people, especially amateur musicians, and share her enthusiasm for music with them. That's why Angelika is studying Applied Musicology and Music Education at the KU.
Angelika grew up in the countryside, where brass bands and church choirs are particularly prevalent. Her goal is to expand the range of musical offerings in rural areas and thus strengthen cultural diversity – with her passion and expertise.
Angelika decided early on to pursue a career in music: she attended a music high school, even though it was a long way to get there. “I had to commute over an hour to school every day.” But she enjoyed music so much that she was happy to put up with it. However, due to a congenital lung disease, Angelika knew that she would not be able to play the flute at a professional level after graduating from high school. So she attended the KU's Open Day to find out about the psychology program. However, she was so impressed by the music department and its range of courses that she decided to study applied musicology and music education.
Angelika is still fascinated by the program today because of its unique combination of musicology and education. She can experiment with music in a practical way and thus develop her creativity—without feeling any pressure to perform. The program gives her the freedom to develop social skills such as team spirit and communication skills, which will help her achieve her big goal: spreading joy through music.
