The GOR Young Researchers Award is intended for researchers whose excellence is demonstrated, among other things, by a particularly high-quality publication in international journals. For Stefan Voigt, the decisive factor was the publication “Last mile delivery routing problem with some-day option,” which he published together with Markus Frank and Heinrich Kuhn in the European Journal of Operational Research. In this paper, the researchers address the question of how delivery processes in online retail can be made more sustainable. “The some-day concept we propose, as opposed to same-day delivery, allows deliveries to be planned flexibly within a certain time frame instead of setting an exact delivery date”, Voigt summarizes. According to the study, this significantly reduces transport kilometers, costs, and CO₂ emissions without customers having to wait noticeably longer for their orders.
For Stefan Voigt, this award is an important career step. “The award is a great recognition of my research to date and will support me in the further course of my academic career, especially in future applications for professorships, where it could be a decisive factor”, he summarizes. He is currently gaining in-depth knowledge of this field of work – in addition to his work at the KU, he is teaching as a substitute professor for sustainable mobility and logistics at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences.
