Dogmatics – what is that? Dogmatics is about presenting the content of the Christian faith in context. For one, it identifies and explores its authoritative aspects. To that end, it is necessary to reconstruct theological dogmas with the help of theological history. Secondly, it structures these aspects in the form of individual doctrines, which in turn form treatises such as Christology or eschatology. Finally, it explains why certain statements are important in order to fully understand the Christian faith. Thus, dogmatics is a normative doctrine of faith based on existing church teaching. At the same time, however, it must also consider how faith is being understood in the present time. Therefore, dogmatics is internally related to fundamental theology. The foundation and exposition of faith go hand in hand.
