Conference „Learning by Serving" in Kooperation with The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin

The team of the "Uniservitate" project at KU, in collaboration with the Catholic University of Lublin (Poland), is organizing a digital conference on the topic of "Service Learning" on November 25th and 26th, 2021. The title of the English-language conference is "Learning by Serving". The contributions of the researchers are aimed at members of KU, the University of Bethlehem (Palestine), the Catholic John Paul II University in Lublin (Poland), and the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv (Ukraine).

Andy Furco (University of Minnesota, USA) and María Rosa Tapia (CLAYSS, Argentina) have been invited as keynote speakers to address the question of what contribution Service Learning (Learning through Engagement, Community Engaged Learning) can make to pedagogical and social innovations in study and teaching. This question will be further explored in various interactive workshops on both days. In addition, the international exchange will discuss initial steps on how Service Learning can be institutionalized at universities.

The conference will be simultaneously translated into English and Polish. Participation is free, but registration via email to uniservitate(at)ku.de is required by November 24th, 2021. The detailed program can be found in the event calendar of the KU.

The Project „Uniservitate“

Uniservitate is an international project funded by the Porticus Foundation and led by the Latin American Center for Solidary Service Learning (CLAYSS) in Argentina. The project aims to systematically and extensively anchor Service Learning offerings at universities. As a global network, Uniservitate strives to build stable and creative partnerships between universities rooted in very different social and cultural contexts.

Since 2020, within the Uniservitate network, KU has been one of seven hubs worldwide for promoting "Service Learning" (Learning through Engagement) at Catholic universities. KU acts as a regional hub for partner organizations in Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East, including the University of Bethlehem (Palestine), the Catholic John Paul II University in Lublin (Poland), and the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv (Ukraine).
