Construction work in the Main Library from August 11

To ensure a pleasant indoor climate in the future, extensive renovations to the Main Library's ventilation and heating system will begin during the lecture-free period. From 2027, the new system will provide optimal air quality and comfortable temperatures year-round.

From August 11 onward, noise and dust may be present at times, particularly in the reading room. Depending on the progress of the construction work, particularly noisy work will mainly be carried out during the semester breaks.

Access to certain collections may be temporarily restricted. Please contact us if you cannot access individual books. Our view of the Altmühl River will also be partially obscured by scaffolding and temporary ventilation systems. Once construction is finished, you will be able to enjoy the familiar view of the countryside again.

We'll do our best to make sure you have the best possible working conditions also during the renovation period:

  • Earplugs are available free of charge at the former information desk in the Main Library’s reading room.
  • Quiet study spaces are also available at our Departmental Libraries Ulmer Hof and Aula (August 1 to October 12, 2025: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) You can reserve a reading room locker (Aula) or a movable storage container (Ulmer Hof) for your documents.
  • For group work a group study room is also available in the Aula Library on the first floor.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this necessary modernization work and will keep you informed of progress on site and on our website. Please contact us if you have any questions.
