Ordering books

In order to borrow books and media you need a valid library card. Our entire holdings are listed in our library catalog OPAC.

You can order all media marked "for order" via the OPAC. To do this, click on "for order" under the "Holdings" tab and confirm your selection. You can pick up your orders within 10 days in the pick-up area in the Main Library and borrow them by yourself with your library card at the self-service terminals.

Delivery times:

  • Closed stacks: Ready to pick up after about 30 minutes
  • Main Library (reading room): Available within 24 hours. It's faster if you take out the books yourself at the library and check them out.
  • Departmental Libraries (reading rooms): It can take up to a week until the books are available at the pick-up shelves. It is faster if you take out the books and check them out by yourself at the library location.
  • Closed stacks in Rebdorf: The provision can take up to a week.

You will receive an e-mail notification as soon as the media you have ordered are ready for pick-up from the Main Library.

The holdings from the reading rooms can also be borrowed directly at the library location. Take the book off the shelf and have it checked out by the reading room supervisor or use the self-checkout terminals (Main Library and Aula).

Reserving books

If a title you are looking for is already borrowed by another user, you can reserve this title for yourself.

You can make reservations for borrowed media yourself in the OPAC: Under the tab "Holdings" click on the status message "on loan until [...]" or under the tab "Get document" on the status message "Place a reservation".
As soon as the medium is ready for you to pick up, you will be automatically notified by e-mail.

If you make a reservation for borrowed media whose loan period has already been extended, these media will be reclaimed early from the current borrower. Accordingly, media for which you have already extended the loan period can be reclaimed from you.
