Prof. Dr. Shashi Matta has been named a WFI Highlight for his strong engagement in the Internationalization and Accreditation of WFI and KU. Above all, the award recognizes his leadership of the AACSB process, which in early 2026 brought WFI into the fewer than six percent of business schools worldwide that hold this accreditation. The seal makes the quality of WFI visible internationally, to students as much as to partner universities and companies. Dean Prof. Dr. Thomas Mählmann presented the certificate.
Why AACSB matters
For students, AACSB accreditation is an internationally recognized sign that their degree meets high standards. It also opens doors to partner schools and programs that only work with accredited institutions. On the occasion of the accreditation, Dean Mählmann described the seal as an entry ticket to an exclusive network.
For faculty and staff, the seal also comes with responsibilities. Teaching, research, and administration are measured against international standards on an ongoing basis, and WFI has to show regularly that it lives up to them.
Three contributions behind the award
Accreditation is a team effort that involves the entire faculty. As project leader, Prof. Matta steered it over several years, and three contributions stand out. First, he coordinated the process from the initial self-evaluation and the reports to AACSB through to the visit of the international peer review team in Ingolstadt. Second, under his leadership, WFI sharpened its mission: business and economics oriented toward people. Third, the faculty set up an advisory board of business representatives and alumni that now supports its further development.
In his role as Vice Dean for Internationalization, Prof. Matta oversees WFI's international partnerships, including the double degree programs and the WFI Summer School, which brings students from partner universities to Ingolstadt each year as an Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme.
