DFG funds new Scientific Network on human–AI collaboration

Dr Marah Blaurock of the Chair of Service Management at WFI is building an international network on human–AI collaboration in knowledge work, spanning eight disciplines, together with Dr Ellen Weber of the University of Hohenheim

The German Research Foundation (DFG) is funding the Scientific Network “AI in Knowledge Work: an Interdisciplinary Network of Early Career Researchers on Uncovering the Implications of AI in Knowledge Work“ with approximately 54,000 euros under its “Scientific Networks” program. The applicants are Dr Marah Blaurock of the Chair of Service Management at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt and Ellen Weber, postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Corporate Management, at the University of Hohenheim. Funding starts beginning of next year.

In knowledge work, artificial intelligence increasingly acts as a partner in decision-making, analysis and content creation, and in doing so it changes how work is organized and performed. Research on this shift remains scattered across separate fields, and an integrated picture is missing.

This is where the network comes in. It brings together early-career researchers from information systems, computer science, organizational behavior, psychology, management, economics, law and ethics. Guided by the socio-technical systems perspective, it combines three viewpoints:

the technological design and implementation of AI systems
the social dynamics of human–AI collaboration in organizations
the broader ethical, legal and economic implications

The members are based at institutions in five countries, including e.g. Germany, Austria, Finland, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
