Host and Landrat Anton Knapp proudly presented the Spiegelsaal (hall of mirrors) in the Residenz and gave a brief introduction on the town and regional area. Mayor Andreas Steppberger praised the students’ decision to travel to Eichstätt from all over the world for their studies: “Eichstätt offers you the ideal conditions for living and studying over the following weeks, months and maybe even years.” He pointed out that the town also greatly benefited from the international students.
Martin Groos, head of the KU International Office, was delighted about the positive development in the number of students: Compared to the previous year, the number of “incomings” had increased by 70 percent. For this winter semester, 51 exchange students have enrolled at the KU. The largest group with 16 students came from Italy. Overall, the KU has exchange students from 13 nations. Furthermore, 20 international degree-seeking students are enrolled at the KU. The German intensive course has 60 participants who are expected to take up their studies at the KU in the following winter semester.
“We extend a warm welcome to all of you. And by “we” I speak of the University but also the town and district” concluded Groos at the end of the reception. Immediately afterwards, the students had the opportunity to get a first idea of the Eichstätt hospitality when Landrat and mayor invited them to enjoy beer and brezn in the Residenzstube.
