Closure of childcare centers and schools in lockdown

Childcare centers and schools in Bavaria remain closed in the renewed lockdown, with emergency care allowed.

According to the Bavarian State Ministry for Family, Labor and Social Affairs, this is open to the following children:

  • children whose parents cannot ensure care in any other way, especially if they have to pursue their occupation,
  • children whose care has been ordered by the responsible youth welfare offices to ensure the best interests of the child,
  • children whose parents are entitled to assistance in raising their children in accordance with §§ 27 ff. of Social Code Book VIII,
  • children with disabilities and children at risk of significant disabilities.

In addition, the German Chancellor and the heads of the state governments agreed, that the entitlement to children's illness benefits for 2021 will be extended due to the Corona pandemic. There are ten additional days per parent, i.e. 20 days per child for each parent,  and 20 additional days for single parents (i.e. in total 40 days per child for single parents). Entitlement to these days also applies in the event of a Corona-related closure of the daycare center or school. You will find more information here.
