The Bavarian Graduate Survey asks students about their experiences and impressions of their alma mater one year after graduation. The results for the 2022/2023 graduating classes show: KU alumni look back on their studies very positively. The recommendation rate and satisfaction stand out in particular. The results are not only very good in this survey, but are also consistently high in a comparison of the last eight surveys and well above the Bavaria-wide average.
81.5 percent of respondents from the 2022 and 2023 graduating classes would recommend studying at the KU. 80 percent are satisfied with their studies. In comparison, the average recommendation rate for all other Bavarian universities surveyed was 68.9 percent, with satisfaction at 67.9 percent. But it is not only the current survey that is outstanding. Stefan Mosandl, Head of Quality Management in Studies and Teaching at the KU, emphasizes above all the KU's consistently high values over the years. He has compared the results since the survey of the 2015/2016 graduating classes and found that the KU consistently achieves very good and well above-average results. In some years, the KU values were even more than ten percentage points above the Bavarian average.
In many other areas, the KU also received better ratings from former students than the ratings that alumni gave on average for the other Bavarian universities. For example, KU graduates state that their degree programs provide a better link between theory and practice (proportion of "very good" and "good" was 54 percent at the KU versus 38 percent in a comparison of all universities). Graduates who participated in the survey particularly praised subject-specific support and advice: As much as 74.5 per cent said that the KU was doing a very good or good job in this respect, while the Bavarian average only amounted to just under 62 per cent of former students who experienced their everyday study life in this way. Overall, the study conditions at the KU are rated positively by over 70 percent on average compared to just under 63 percent for the other universities.
In terms of study organization, satisfaction with access to courses stands out in particular. 85.6 percent of alumni rate this positively (80 percent on average of all respondents). As far as the organization of studies is concerned, the KU also achieves consistently better results here than other universities – such as in relation to providing international courses (61 percent at the KU compared to just under 52 percent for the overall average), the content of courses (around 72 percent compared to 63 percent) or transparency (just over 82 per cent compared to 71 per cent).
Looking at the results of the skills assessment, the KU is not only ahead on average. The ability to take responsibility (73.5 percent compared to just under 60 percent), communication skills (over 78 percent to 63 percent) and organizational skills (over 84 percent to 78.5 percent) achieved particularly good survey results.
It is also noteworthy that KU students find a job more quickly after graduation than graduates from other universities. KU alumni searched for an average of 1.8 months, while alumni from other universities took 2.4 months to find a job.
For the current evaluation of the study, around 6625 former students who graduated from one of the Bavarian universities and higher education institutions between 2022 and 2023 were surveyed. The Bavarian graduate survey provides universities with data for quality assurance and degree program planning. The questions are jointly determined by the Bavarian State Institute for Higher Education Research and Planning together with the universities to ensure comparability. The new study once again stresses the continuously high quality of studies and teaching at the KU, which other surveys such as the CHE University Ranking also regularly confirm.
