Research focus areas and specializations

While teaching has the aim of providing at least a general overview of the period since the discovery and conquest of Latin America, research at the chair focuses on the 19th and 20th centuries in particular. The chairholder's main areas of research are:

• History of Latin America in the process of globalization from its discovery to the 20th century
• “Weak statehood” in asymmetrical power relations in the history of Latin America
• European immigrants and transcultural change in Argentina and Brazil
• Historical peace and conflict research in Latin America (cultures of illegality and violence; collective memory)
• Football cultures and history
• History of knowledge and science in the Atlantic region
