Visiting Professors at the KU

Target groupKU professors, who would like to invite a visiting professor to spend a short-term visiting lectureship at the KU.
Selection criteria
  • Quality of the project
  • Qualification of visiting professor
  • The visiting professor offers (parts of) courses held in English; courses must correspond to existing module descriptions at the KU
  • Inviting visiting professor to the KU aims at promoting, expanding on and establishing sustainable international structures at the KU, especially within the field of teaching.
  • Our visiting professors come from partner universities which are a very important contact for the KU. These include universities for which there is a strong demand among KU students and which offer places with exemption from tuition fees.
  • These contacts are essential for the KU in order to be integrated in international networks in which the KU can become involved. A particular focus at the KU is on networks of Catholic universities all over the world. 
  • Visiting professors become involved in degree programs offering double degree structures

Applications for the invitation of international guest lecturers to the KU shall be submitted by KU professors. The application consists of 

  • A convincing outline (2 pages max.) of the envisaged participation of the visiting professor in the field of teaching at the KU which also takes into account the above mentioned criteria
  • A résumé of the proposed visiting professor including list of publications
  • A letter of the visiting professor confirming his/her stay in case the funding is granted and outlining his/her proposed teaching program for the envisaged stay (may be submitted at a later stage)

FundingThe funding consists of a mobility allowance for travel to and from the university, which is based on the currently applicable DAAD mobility allowances in the DAAD Visiting Lecturer Programme.

In addition, a flat-rate residence allowance amounting to
  • 160,00 EUR per day for stays of less than one week
  • 800,00 EUR per week for stays up to two weeks
  • 560,00 EUR per week for stays of more than two weeks
is granted.
Application deadlines
  • 04 May 2020 for teaching stays in the Winter Semester 2020/2021
  • 30 November 2020 for teaching stays in the Summer Semester 2021
