Course levels: German A1.1, A2.1, B1.1, B2.1 (C1.1 may also be offered if required)
Course locations: The A1.1 course usually takes place at the Ingolstadt campus. The other courses are offered in Eichstätt or Ingolstadt, depending on availability.
Exchange students from all programs as well as international degree-seeking students enrolled in English-taught degree programs who are required to reach and document German level A2 within their first year of studies.

The Language Center offers a wide range of general German language courses as well as skills-specific courses (e.g., speaking and writing practice, German culture and society, pronunciation, academic writing, and more).

The Q-Course is a preparatory course preceding the 8-month Intensive German Course leading to the DSH exam. The course objective of the Q-Course is to complete level A1.

The Q-Course takes place online via Zoom.

Workload expectations:
Participants are expected to attend daily classes (4 hours), participate in a study group (1 hour), and spend approximately 45 minutes per day on self-study.
This course extends over two semesters and generally starts in the fall semester. The minimum admission requirement is a completed A1 level, which must be proven through an entrance test.

This course is offered to selected partner universities of KU and places are limited. Students who wish to participate must be nominated by their home university.
The Intensive German Course prepares students for the DSH (German Language Examination for University Admission of Foreign Applicants). The exam can be taken at KU and entitles students to study at KU; in general, other German universities also accept the DSH certificate. With DSH level 2 you are eligible to enroll in any degree program. A CEFR language level (GER) cannot be certified separately.
Exchange students who successfully complete the course will receive a Transcript of Records with more than 40 ECTS credits. Depending on the schedule, it may also be possible to attend additional courses (e.g., English-taught seminars in the faculties).

The KU Summer School is our premium German language program in July/August. It combines intensive German learning with cultural studies and/or literature as well as an attractive and diverse cultural and social program.
