Edited volume "Refugee Women. Analyses – Living Situations – Support Services" published!

Causes of flight, escape routes and living conditions of refugee women are, as the recent war in Ukraine shows, a perpetually topical issue. At present, for example, the world is looking at the war in and refugee movements from Ukraine – among the refugees are many women and their children. The anthology presents findings on the situation of refugee women in various areas of life and illustrates service structures and their concepts.

What are the living conditions of refugee women in Germany? What opportunities do they have on the labor market? What protection from violence can they receive? What were their experiences of flight and arrival? What are their expectations and hopes? What service structures are in place? What research findings are available – taking into account different areas of life – on the situation of refugee women?

In this anthology, the life situations, subjective orientations, and action strategies of refugee women are made the subject of discussion from interdisciplinary perspectives. In addition, the social framework conditions that have a significant influence on their living conditions are subjected to critical analysis. Finally, service structures by, for, and with refugee women that exist in Germany and respond to their life situations, interests, and needs will be discussed.

The book provides a variety of connecting points for science and practice. It offers both theoretical analyses of various fields of research, e.g. protection against violence, access to professional qualifications and gainful employment, and illuminating perspectives on service structures and the daily work and challenges of initiatives and associations. Last but not least, refugee women themselves have their say through biographical portraits and talk about their experiences. The complexity of the contributions provides differentiated insights into the lives of refugee women in Germany and the social conditions surrounding them.
