Research fields at KU

Basic research and practical science are given equal weight at KU. Integrated into a broad international network, it contributes to the acquisition and dissemination of new scientific knowledge and has a far-reaching impact on society. It serves the common good by developing procedures and instruments that incorporate the scientific system's responsibility to society.

At a time when major challenges such as progressive anthropogenic climate change, digital transformation, and the challenges facing liberal democracies need to be overcome, a broad spectrum of research in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences is required in order to further develop the conditions for positive social coexistence and actively shape the future. With its unique profile, KU can contribute to this by encouraging its researchers to engage in ethical reflection on scientific work, contextualizing new findings in a social context, evaluating them, and thus providing guidance and transformational knowledge for sustainable development.
