Sports Center
Regular exercise helps prevent disease and improves physical fitness and well-being. The area around Eichstätt is great for outdoor activities, but the KU’s Sports Center also offers plenty of opportunities to get active with over 120 sports and fitness courses – from A for aerobics to Z for zumba.
Sports
There are many different sports that you can get involved in at the KU. All of the major sports are offered, such as tennis, basketball, volleyball, handball, field hockey, swimming, track and field, martial arts, and of course soccer (every year teams from different degree programs compete for the University’s Präsi-Cup). There are also yoga, fitness, and gymnastics courses, as well as dance courses for beginners and more advanced learners. The KU even has its own canoes that you can borrow for a small fee and take out on the Altmühl river with friends.
Most sports courses are held in the sports building (Main Building C). Some are held in other locations such as the sports hall and the gymnastics hall. The outdoor sports facilities with a soccer field and running track are located on Dr. Hans-Hutter-Straße in the Seidlkreuz neighborhood. If you prefer to train alone, you can use the gym as often as you want for a small fee (currently 30 euros per semester for students). During the lecture period the gym is open until 9.00 p.m. on weekdays and 2.00 p.m. on Saturdays.
Each semester the Sports Center issues a program brochure with details of all courses on offer. Copies are available in the sports building and around campus (in german).
Education
The KU’s Sports Center is also responsible for theoretical and practical teaching in sports modules for teaching degree program students. It also runs modules on exercise that are part of the Social Work degree program.
Diagnosis lab
The Sports Center’s diagnosis lab offers a range of endurance tests and motion analyses. If you would like to have your health checked according to criteria used in sports science, you can seek advice and have examinations carried out here. A fee is charged for the tests; students pay a reduced rate.
