De-registration

Upon de-registration, all rights and obligations as a student and member of the University end.

Students can request de-registration by the end of the respectively current semester or with immediate effect.

If de-registration is to be effected due to a change of university or an interruption in studies, it is advisable to always de-register at the end of the current semester, as this does not result in any interruption in insurance cover (health insurance). With effect from the end of the respectively current semester, de-registration can be applied for from mid-January (winter semester) or mid-June (summer semester). After the start of the semester, retroactive de-registration at the end of the previous semester is no longer possible.

Under certain conditions, de-registration can also be effected on the University’s initiative in the context of enforcement of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (Bayerisches Hochschulinnovationsgesetz, BayHIG)

De-registration is conclusively regulated by Article 94 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG) with the three reasons below being most frequently stated:

  • Students are de-registered at the end of the semester in which they have completed their final examination. An examination is only passed when this has been determined by the responsible examination bodies. De-registration due to a passed examination therefore does not take place upon submission of the final thesis or completion of another examination, but at the end of the semester in which all examinations were passed – and thus also have been corrected and recorded. De-registration from a degree program with passed final examination can only be effected after receipt of the final academic record!
  • Students are de-registered if they have failed a required interim or final examination or assessment at the final attempt in accordance with the examination regulations or if they are no longer able to fulfill the prerequisites for registration for one of the above-mentioned examinations or assessments for reasons within their own responsibility, unless when the students change to another degree program.
  • Students are de-registered if no proof of payment of the fees and amounts due can be provided upon re-registration or if the insurance certificate was not submitted for reasons within the student’s own responsibility.
